  2.     DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4.     Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5.     before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6.     using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7.     differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8.     require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9.     registration, you get anything from the simple right to
  10.     continue using the software to an updated program with
  11.     printed manual.

  13.     Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
  14.     software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a
  15.     few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors
  16.     are accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors,
  17.     and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases,
  18.     there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is
  19.     in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants
  20.     the right to copy and distribute the software, either to all
  21.     and sundry or to a specific group. For example, some authors
  22.     require written permission before a commercial disk vendor
  23.     may copy their Shareware.

  25.     Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
  26.     You should find software that suits your needs and pocket,
  27.     whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system
  28.     makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before
  29.     you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low
  30.     also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if
  31.     you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  35.     Users of G.I.P. must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  38.     disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, 
  39.     without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and 
  40.     of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability 
  41.     for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from 
  42.     the use of the Generic Install Program."

  44.     Generic Install Program is a "shareware program" and is provided 
  45.     at no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it 
  46.     with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as 
  47.     part of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software 
  48.     is to provide personal computer users with quality software
  49.     without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  50.     programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find this 
  51.     program useful and find that you are using G.I.P. and continue to
  52.     use G.I.P. after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
  53.     registration payment of 24.00 US dollars to Kenneth E. Sandquist Jr. 
  54.     The 24.00 US dollars registration fee will license one copy for
  55.     use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this
  56.     software just like a book. An example is that this software
  57.     may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
  58.     from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
  59.     possibility of it being used at one location while it's being
  60.     used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  61.     different persons at the same time.

  63.     Commercial users of G.I.P. must register and pay for their
  64.     copies of G.I.P. within 30 days of first use or their
  65.     license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
  66.     by contacting Kenneth E. Sandquist Jr.

  68.     You are encouraged to pass a copy of G.I.P. along to your
  69.     friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
  70.     their copy if they find that they can use it. All registered
  71.     users will receive a copy of the latest version of the
  72.     G.I.P. system.
